This show came about somewhat randomly.  We had wanted to make it up to Boston on a weekend and figured we would stop at Simon’s Rock on the way, but the Boston show never panned out, which left us with this little gig at a 400-student college in the Berkshires.  Fortunately, unlike some of our other more random shows (remember the Sound Beach Inn?), this one ended up being a lot of fun.

We got there early and hung around campus for a little while, grabbing a meal at the dining hall and bugging anyone we saw and asking them to come to the show.  Despite no one actually knowing who we were or even having heard our music before, we actually ended up with a decent turnout.  More importantly, the kids who came out stayed for the full two hours, and were totally receptive and supportive throughout the set.

Since we had so much time to fill, we threw in a few covers, and everyone seemed to enjoy them.  Admittedly, they might have gone over a little better if we hadn’t chosen three songs from the mid to late 90s, but some of the kids still knew the words.  No one seemed to mind that we mathed up the arrangement of Tonight Tonight, or that we totally fumbled our way through the first verse of Aenema.  Everyone just seemed to want to have a good time.

Overall, it was definitely a good show.  We had pretty good sound, we got to play for two hours, we sold a bunch of CDs, and we even had a bit of a mosh pit going towards the end of John Texas.  If the students at Simon’s Rock are any indication of the college circuit in general, we should definitely start playing more of these shows.  Hopefully we can make it back up there again next year.
