The Trash Bar treats us so well. They give us great slots, they don’t cut our sets short, they have reasonable cover charges, and they pay their bands pretty generously. And I guess an hour of open bar doesn’t hurt either. Nothing makes mathy polyrhythms go down easy like a couple free PBRs (or so I’ve been told). This was our second show at Trash Bar, and we will definitely be looking to play there again.
We had a great turnout, which was a nice way of welcoming Andrew. Astronaut Down as a five piece has been an elusive dream for quite some time, so to finally realize it was a pretty big occasion for us. It was also a lot of fun to play with our friends Mix Minus again, who were celebrating their first CD release. Hopefully we will continue to cross-pollinate each others’ fanbases (if that’s an OK phrase to use) and build on them.
Throughout the set there were some “oops” moments, possibly due in part to the aforementioned open bar, but Phil kept us in line and everyone had a good time. There’s room for improvement, but for our first show as a five-piece, we kept it together reasonably well. We can’t wait to finish up this recording so that everyone will know the words to ALL the songs, not just the ones from God’s Eye. Thanks so much to everyone who came out to show their support! It was a great night.
